What is arbitration?

Arbitration is a formal process by which a panel of one or more arbitrators is chosen by the parties involved in a dispute, to hear and rule on the dispute. The parties agree to accept the arbitrator’s ruling as final and binding.

What is the arbitrator's role?

The arbitrator's role is to hear evidence concerning the dispute between the parties and to make an award based on the evidence. An arbitrator must have no interest in the matter under dispute and must render his/her decision in an impartial manner based on a review of the evidence.

What is mediation?

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution in which the parties bring their dispute before a neutral third party mediator, who helps them agree on a settlement. A less formal method of mediation is called conciliation, where a neutral third party helps the parties communicate and explore possible solutions.
