Business leases in ACT are governed by the Leases (Commercial and Retail) Act 2001. The Act applies to retail premises with a lettable area of 1000 sq m or less, including premises in shopping centres, and commercial premises with a lettable area of 300 sq m or less, and is also applicable to a number of specific business as listed in the regulations.
Landlords are prohibited from discriminating against a tenant who joins or forms a tenant association, or from compelling a tenant to join any such association.
