Hermit Cookies Recipe
HERMIT COOKIES
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
3/4 c. sour milk
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. each cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. mixed fruit, cut
1 c. glace cherries
1/2 c. to 1 c. chopped nuts
Heat oven to 375F. Grease baking sheets. Blend shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add sour milk and sifted dry ingredients alternately. Stir in fruit and nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on baking sheet. Bake at 350F for 12 minutes.
