Who has the right to file a mechanics lien?

Under Vermont law, any party who furnishes labor or materials for building, alterations, repairs or improvements to real property under contract with the property owner, owner’s agent, contractor or subcontractor of the owner has a valid lien.

What is the deadline for filing a lien claim?

A Notice of Mechanics Lien must be filed no later than 180 days from the date on which payment became due for the last labor and/or materials furnished to the project. There is no formal requirement to serve notice of the filing on the property owner or general contractor.
