Assignment by Author of Copyright in Written Work

The author assigns to a third party (such as a publisher) all of the author's worldwide rights in copyright in a specified written work.
The author retains a personal license to use extracts from the work, but the author must obtain the assignee's permission before using all or a large portion of the work.
The author indemnifies the assignee against any infringement claims resulting from publication of the work.
Every publisher - print or digital - should have an Assignment of Copyright form available for authors to sign when dealing with any copyrighted work.

The author of a work assigns his/her right and title to copyright in the work to a third party, and waives his/her moral rights in the work, pursuant to the Canada Copyright Act.
An author's "moral rights" consist of the right to be identified as the creator of a work and the right to object to derogatory treatment of a work which the author feels is prejudicial or detrimental to his/her reputation.
Moral rights do not transfer with the ownership of the copyright, but they can be waived by the author.
