Q. What laws are in place in QLD to protect the rights of landlords and tenants?

A.  The rights and obligations of tenants and landlords in Queensland are governed by the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.

Q. Does the lease or tenancy agreement need to be in writing?

A.  Yes. The landlord must provide the tenant with a written tenancy agreement before the tenant moves into the rental property. But even if no written agreement is provided, both parties are still bound by the provisions of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.
