    Q. How much notice must be given by either party to terminate a tenancy?

    A. The notice period depends on the type of tenancy. To end a fixed term tenancy agreement, the landlord must give the tenant 30 days written notice and the tenant must give the landlord 14 days written notice. In the case of a periodic tenancy agreement, the landlord must give 90 days written notice and the tenant must give 21 days written notice. For a termination caused by a breach of the agreement, either party must give the other 14 days written notice.

    Q. What about in the case of domestic violence?

    A. As of 28 February 2019 amendments to the laws allow a tenant to end their tenancy immediately, without penalty, if they or any dependent child are under the threat of domestic violence.
